Sails for heavy winds

A storm jib and a trysail were made by Harold Stevens and proved to be very useful during a severe fall storm in the Gulf of Maine.

Sail for very light winds

A colourful spinnaker was made several years ago in Sidney BC by the local sailmaking company Leitch McBride.

Winches

  • Jib Sheets: Two-speed Lewmar winches are mounted on on both side of the cockpit on custom stainless bases made by Strait Metal in Sidney BC.
  • Main and Jib Halyards: Winches on the main mast are Barlow.
  • Mizzen Halyard: The winch on the mizzen mast is a Gibb.
  • There are four winch handles.

Halyards and Sheets

The running rigging was replaced in the last two years with double braided polyester rope.

Cleats

All of the cleats on the boat were designed and created in oak by the original builder. They have performed well without breakage over many years of use.

Blocks

  • All of the blocks on the boat were designed and created in oak by the original builder.
  • Because a rope with an eye spliced in place encircles the block, a failure of any component does not release the affected sheet.
  • Several extras are stored on the boat and are useful for requirements such as climbing the mast.
Blocks

A major use for blocks is providing downhauls for controlling the main and mizzen sails.

Aries Wind Vane

The tiller controlled by a person is used for most sailing trips that are short or require frequent tacking / jibing. For longer trips in settled conditions, a wind vane gear gives crew a great break from the tiller.

A well-known and proven Aries wind vane is not installed but is included in the sale.
